The Ministry of Culture and Tourism held a press conference on the 5th to introduce the first ISO tourism international standard led by China. This international standard focuses on tourism information consulting services, injecting "Chinese elements" and contributing "Chinese experience" to tourism international standards. It will play an important role in our country's participation in international tourism governance and promoting sustainable tourism development.
International standards organization (ISO) is the world's largest and most comprehensive international standards body. The familiar ISO9001 quality management system requirements and other international standards are issued by this organization.
Li Yubing, deputy director of the Standard Innovation Management Department of the State Administration for Market Regulation, who attended the press conference, introduced that on November 13 this year, the international standards organization officially released the "Tourism and Related Services - Tourism Information Consulting Services - Requirements and Recommendations" (ISO 14785:2024) international standard. This standard was officially established in the international standards organization in November 2021 and took three years to develop. It was unanimously approved by all member states of the international standards organization and released as scheduled.
The international standard of tourism information consulting service focuses on the multi-scene and various links of tourism information consulting service, innovatively puts forward the content and requirements of online tourism information consulting service, and revises the international standard of "Tourism Information Consulting Center - Tourism Information Consulting and Reception Service - Requirements" led by Spain in 2014, including the main content of tourism information consulting service, work requirements, destination promotion, service personnel, infrastructure, suggestions and complaint management.
According to Fang Lin, convener of the Tourism Consulting and Hospitality Services Working Group of the ISO Tourism and Related Services Technical Committee and lead drafter of the standard, the purpose of the preparation of this standard is mainly to adapt to the current needs of informatization development, standardize the scope, content and quality requirements of tourism information consulting services in various countries, so that tourists can obtain tourism information through a variety of online and offline channels, and enjoy more thoughtful and friendly services. The new version of the standard is further extended to all institutions that provide tourism information consulting services, especially the addition of online platforms and other online institutions, making the coverage of the standard more comprehensive and systematic, and more in line with the global trend of informatization and intelligence.
"The official release of the international standards for tourism information consulting services is an important breakthrough in the field of tourism standards in the world." Liu Dongyan, deputy director of the Science and Technology Education Department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, said that from the perspective of tourism practice, it can not only play an important technical supporting role in improving the level of global tourism public services, but also has a good reference for our country's tourism industry to standardize service procedures, improve management efficiency, and optimize the inbound tourism reception environment.
The Tourism Quality Supervision and Management Institute of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism is the domestic technical counterpart unit of the ISO Tourism and Related Services Technical Committee. Director Liu Jianming said that at present, the Tourism Quality Supervision and Management Institute has officially established 7 international standards and 2 pre-research standard projects on behalf of China in the ISO Tourism and Related Services Technical Committee, involving online tourism agencies, sustainable tourism, camping, buffet and other fields, accounting for more than half of the ISO Tourism and Related Services Technical Committee's research standard projects. In addition to the standards released this time, the international standard "Online Tourism Agencies - Online Accommodation Reservation Platform Service Guide" led by China is expected to be released soon.
It is reported that soon after the release of international standards for tourism information consulting services, Spain, the United Kingdom, South Africa and other countries have adopted it.
